The Back Story

We met at art school in Perth in 1972 and since then, whatever we have been doing art and creativity has been a part of our lives.

Twenty-five years ago we were living in Perth and running our national selling clothing business and raising a family.

Life was busy and intense; we worked hard and needed a holiday.

The idea of a couple of weeks in Bali sounded like a good idea and for both of us Ubud was love at first sight.

The dream that someday we could live here was born.

Every year we returned to Ubud and got to know the place and the people a little better.

Then in 2013 we lived in Ubud for six months. This was a test to make sure that our dream of living here was real.

In 2015 we sold our cottage in the Perth hills, packed up our belongings and made the move.

Then came the process of looking for a magical piece of land to build our dream home.

It was always our plan to have a gallery at our house showing local artist’s work. We found ceramic artists, painters and jewellers, photographers and craftsmen and we now represent their wonderful products in our garden gallery.

We look for art that is unique that you will not find in other galleries in Ubud.

Ubud is our home now and we give thanks every day for the life we live here.

We have created a magical space that we would like to share with you along one of Ubud’s best rice field walks a short distance from the centre of town.

Stop for a coffee or lunch in one of the many delightful restaurants and warungs along Subak Sok Wayah and look for the blue sign to Zanzibar Art House.

Our time on Zanzibar Island is so memorable that we have called our gallery Zanzibar Art House.
